Of course we have all heard the mysterious term "bias" regarding tubes and tube amps.
There is much more explaination on our tubes page. The tubes have to have an adjustment to "push" them into the correct range for the amp's voltages.
It would be easy if all tubes were alike, but vacuum tubes vary from one batch and even one tube to the other. The manufacturing process is not precise enough to get all of them totally equal.
A bias adjustment makes the amp have clean, strong tone, and all the power it should.
Yes, the amp's bias can be adjusted for particular styles of music - many of the settings listed are the same (such as country and pop) but there are several ways the amp can be setup to best suit your music.
We are pretty well known for getting amps set up right with strong power, smooth tone and no "bad distortion" called crossover distortion (the tubes are not switching back and forth correctly leaving a time lapse between their cycle - this sounds terrible.)
Bias adjustment is referenced from the charts found in "Inside Tube Amps" and adjusted individually for your amps characteristics and the tone you want.
A real good idea when you are getting the amp serviced and/or getting new tubes.
Note: This charge is for labor in our shop when we have your amp in the shop. Not printed material
