"Inside Tube Amps" by Dan Torres as well as other books have opened the doorway to a lot of creativity, interesting new concepts and ideas. But you may be looking for some more esoteric info - things not really covered in any book - LOW NOISE BUILDING TECHNIQUES. Tubes have some inherent noise going on, just the fact that they use AC for the heaters/filaments is a problem. Put that together with stepped up very high voltage AC going into the rectifier and minimal power supply smoothing and we are actually used to a fair degree of low level hum and buzz - if you'd like to get rid of it - check out this new technology package from Torres Engineering. THE SILENCER includes several relatively high tech, but easy to install noise reduction methods for tube amplifiers. It also includes the parts for all the different tricks and modifications. Nothing affect the sound or tone of the amp (unless you like excess noise), and you can install several on the same amp. Included are: A pre-rectifier AC snubber circuit. Pumping up the power supply for less DC ripple (hundreds of times less!) Rectifier tube protection.
